Pension Funds: SSS in possession of video clip showing senators receive N3bn from government officials

As Nigerians are still battling with the allegation of $620,000 bribe among some members of the House of Representatives, citizenry of the country may soon witness another video clip, following the allegation of N3billion bribe among members of the ad hoc Senate Committee on pension funds. It was gathered that the Senators were alleged to have received the billions of naira contributed by some top government officials who were indicted by the committee’s report to have allegedly mismanaged the pension funds.A source confirmed that the alleged bribe video clip had been submitted to security operatives for proper investigation. The source added that if the matter is not swept under the carpet, Nigeria may soon watch how our senators are taking bribe from corrupt government officials. It will be recalled that the Senate pension Committee had submitted its report to the senate last week, calling for the probe of the Chairman of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina.Following this presentation of pension funds reports, the lower chamber had kicked against the recommendation of the Senate. It was learnt that the House of Representatives members are very furious over the decision of the Senate on the report that Maina should be probed. The House in a memo addressed to the Head of Service of the Federation criticised the senate report and urged President Jonathan to ensure adequateprotection for the Chairman of Presidential Task Team on Pension Reform to carry out his assignment. The memo was signed by the House Committee Chairman on Pensions,  Ibrahim Bawa Kamba and title “Urgent Call on Mr President To Further Give Protection and Directive To the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reform to Continue To Carry Out Thorough, Comprehensive/Holistic Pension Reform Across All MDAs and Parastatals To A Logical Conclusion. The house noted that according to its own findings “The Presidential Task Team on Pension Reform should be the only genuine veritable vehicle for executing reform agenda on PensionFunds.”The memo also stated: “In the light of corruption in the management of Pension Funds within MDAs and Parastatals, the House Committee on Pensions wishes to call on President Jonathan to direct the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reform to overhaul and continue to reform all MDAs and Parastatals pension administration.”
